Figurative Abstract Paintings

Paul Ygartua’s figurative abstract paintings bring the human subject into a freer visual language. Figures can be suggested rather than fully described, leaving room for colour, gesture and the viewer’s interpretation.

For Ygartua, abstraction draws on techniques developed across many painting styles. Spontaneous strokes made with a brush or palette allow feeling to guide the work. This collection explores that freedom while retaining a connection to the figure.

It is a personal freedom of expression, bringing together everything you have learned over the years through spontaneous strokes applied with a palette or brush.
