Abstract Impressionist Paintings

Paul Ygartua’s abstract impressionist paintings combine freedom of movement with a considered composition. Fluid brushwork and expressive colour give familiar subjects a different emotional quality, allowing the scene to remain recognisable while its details become less literal.

Coastal views, city scenes and landscapes provide starting points for this collection. Ygartua uses fast, flowing movements to translate his response to a subject into paint, balancing spontaneity with the structure of the finished image.

I enjoy painting abstract impressionism because, with this style, I can combine freedom of movement and colour with a controlled design.
