Floral & Flower Paintings
Paul Ygartua’s floral paintings begin with colour as much as form. Inspired by nature’s combinations, he approaches flowers with the freedom of abstract painting, allowing movement and feeling to guide the composition.
I never enjoyed painting flowers, but then one day I started a new approach, thinking first of the colour rather than the form. Suddenly, I found the freedom I was looking for.
Nature is my guide, my inspiration.
Finding freedom in flowers
The turning point came when Ygartua stopped concentrating on describing a flower and began responding to its colour. Applying paint with the spontaneity of an abstract brought movement into the composition. Vivid colours and thick paint became his way of suggesting depth and drawing the viewer into the experience of nature.
