Jazz Paintings

Jazz is a recurring inspiration in Paul Ygartua’s work. His paintings of musicians and groups aim to capture the feeling of listening to music: its movement, freedom and energy.

The collection brings together portraits and group scenes, including jazz and blues subjects. Rather than simply recording a performance, Ygartua uses painting to express his personal response to the musicians and the music they create.
